Walker Herefords was started in Stamford, TX in Jones County in 1947 by Don Walker. This area is primarily noted for its cotton but Don always maintained a small herd of 20-25 registered Hereford cows. From the late 1970's until the late 1990's, over 80% of the calves were sired by A.I. bulls. In 2003, Tom and Leigh Anne moved to La Grange in Fayette County. At that time, a portion of the herd started to move from the Rolling Plains to South Central Texas. We have found that our cows don't weigh quite as much in this part of the country and the calves don't grow as fast but we have learned to adjust. Today, the herd consists of around 40-50 cows. We develop our cattle with the commercial cattleman in mind. We sell the majority of our cattle private treaty to local ranchers. Give us a call. We would love to show you the herd.

WE BOUGHT THIS SIGN FOR FATHERS'S DAY AROUND 1985. LIKE THIS SIGN, DAD'S HERD STOOD THE TEST OF TIME. DAD WILL BE MISSED, BUT THE HERD HE STARTED IN 1947 LIVES ON.
If you get a chance, check out Ty Walker on Apple Music, Spotify or iTunes. We think he's pretty good.
